Daily food puzzle: sort 12 foods into 4 hidden groups
Plate sort is a daily puzzle about food. You get 12 foods, each with its portion, and you sort them into 4 groups of 3. The group names stay hidden until you find them. Everyone gets the same puzzle on the same day, and a new one arrives at midnight. You can play it free in your browser or in the Grammi app.
How to play
- Pick three foods that you think belong together.
- Tap Submit. If all three are in the same group, the group is revealed with its name and colour.
- Use your four mistakes well. A wrong guess costs one. If two of your three foods were right, you see “One away…”.
- Find all four groups to solve the puzzle, then share your result as coloured squares, without giving the answers away.
What the groups are
On some days the groups are about calories per portion: under 100 kcal, 150–250 kcal, 300–420 kcal and over 500 kcal. On other days they are about where the calories come from: mostly protein, mostly fat, mostly carbs, or balanced. There are gaps between the bands, so a food never sits right on the border between two groups.
The portion matters. A handful of nuts and a bowl of rice can land in the same calorie group, and a food you think of as protein may get most of its calories from fat.
Why it helps when you count calories
Counting calories gets easier when you can guess a portion before you look it up. Plate sort trains that guess in a few minutes a day. So does the daily calorie game, Calorie sense, where you pick the calories of 5 foods from 4 answers (here is how it works).
In the app
In Grammi, Plate sort is on the Kitchen page. Calorie sense can also be played from a Home Screen widget, and you can challenge a friend with a link: they play the same 5 foods in their browser, no app needed. Streak shields keep your game streak alive on a day you miss.
Both games are free, with no ads and no account. The foods and portions come from Grammi’s food database, so the numbers are the same ones you log.
Questions
Is there a daily food puzzle game?
Yes. Plate sort from Grammi gives you 12 foods every day to sort into 4 hidden groups of 3, by calories per portion or by where the calories come from. It is free in the browser and in the app.
Do I need the app to play Plate sort?
No. You can play it free in your browser on grammiapp.com. In the Grammi app it is on the Kitchen page, next to the daily calorie game.
How many mistakes can I make in Plate sort?
Four. If two of the three foods you picked belong together, the game tells you that you are one away.
